Weekly Reflections
| February Black History Reflection |
| February is Black History Month. A time to reflect on the contributions African-Americans have made in shaping our nation, culture and especially our civil rights policies. A time to remember the women and men who spent their personal and professional lives working to make things better, not only for themselves, but also for their families, their communities and our nation; and not just for their generation, but also for the millions who came after them. Valuing our history, reflecting on how we came to be the nation and people we are today and honoring those who sacrificed personally and professionally is so important. We would not be the nation we are and we would not have the freedom and rights we enjoy, but for the women and men who made freedom and civil rights their life long passion. Without the contributions made by the people we remember during Black History Month the liberty we enjoy today would not exist. But our history is only part of the story, the chapters that have already been written. We too have a part to play. We too must take up this struggle if liberty is to endure, if the generations who come after us are to have a better world in which to live and work. |

African-American Voices Gospel Choir
On Sunday, April 15, 2012, the African American Voices Gospel Choir at The Ohio State University will be the guest choir during Christ Memorial Missionary Baptist Church's 11:00 am worship service.
The African American Voices Gospel Choir At The Ohio State University (AAVGC) celebrates 20 years of dedicated service to not only our great institution, but to the community, and the nation at large. Established in the spring of 1991 under the masterful direction of Dr. Lee Jones, AAVGC, known then as The Ohio State University Mentoring Choir, sang its first selections at the mentoring programs banquet. In 1995 the choir revised its name to the African American Voices in an effort to sustain itself as an organization from the mentoring program. By 1998, the choir had become a mighty force opening for the likes of Yolanda King (daughter of Dr Martin Luther King Jr.), at the Office of Minority Affairs annual fall quarter banquet. The choir also had the privilege of partnering with Capitol University’s choir in their annual gospel explosion. During this same year AAV was televised as the featured musical presentation for the annual Martin Luther King Jr march and Breakfast.
Overall, the choir offers a diverse repertoire of music including but not limited to the genre of spirituals, contemporary and traditional gospel music, original compositions, praise and worship, contemporary Christian music and a cappella selections. As followers of Christ the choir’s desire is to minister with songs, hymns, and spiritual songs, always giving thanks for all things in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to God (Ephesians 5:19-20).
